Nair hospital dental college is one of the oldest institutes in the country dating back to 1933. The untiring efforts of the late founder and the Ex-Dean, Dr V M Desai gave rise to this dental college which is on par with any of the national or international institutes. The institute made a humble beginning in a stable at Topiwala National Medical College with a single dental chair.

In 1946 it was taken over by the Municipal Corporation. Under them the college flourished with the construction of a separate 5 storey building with 72 Dental chairs, well equipped laboratories and X-ray machines. In 1954 it got affiliated to the Bombay university for conferring Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree. In 1957 Dr H D Merchant took over as the dean and ushered in a new era, making Nair Hospital Dental College the first institute to offer postgraduation in Orthodontics, Operative dentistry, Prosthodontics and Oral Surgery. A new 8 storied building was constructed to accommodate the rapid progress of the Institute. The college got affiliated to the newly created Maharashtra University of Health Sciences in 1998.

The College has a school dental program to deliver healthy smiles to almost 3000 children every year from municipal schools. Free treatment is provided to children from Orphanages, Prisoners, Differently abled patients and MCGM staff too. The College also provides subsidized dental treatment to Senior citizens.

NAIR HOSPITAL DENTAL JOURNAL OF CONTEMPORARY DENTISTRY is an official publication of Nair Hospital Dental College. It is a double blind peer-reviewed, Published Annually started in 2021. The journal publishes original articles, short articles, case reports, case series, systematic reviews, metaanalyses and letter to editor. THE NAIR HOSPITAL DENTAL JOURNAL OF CONTEMPORARY DENTISTRY (NHDCJCD) invites authors to submit manuscripts not only from dentistry but also from other related specialities like Pharmacology, microbiology, pathology, physiotherapy, etc. (NHDCJCD) invites scientific manuscripts in the following categories, systematic reviews and meta-analysis, clinical trials, cohort, case control, cross-sectional, case series, case reports, interviews, letters to editor, invited reviews, etc.

Since it is an official publication of one of the top ranked institute in the country which has been in existence since the last 85 years, we will strive to maintain the same high standards. The journal follows a strict double blind peer review process making it absolutely impartial and unbiased. The journal also believes in safeguarding the privacy of the subjects involved in the studies. It is imperative for all the authors to submit a patient consent form along with the manuscript. Journal has been indexed in Google Scholar Our endeavor will be to get the journal indexed in Scopus and Pubmed at earliest. The Registrar of Newspapers for India registration has been obtained, ISSN number for the online version has been obtained.
